Its Satan's last chance. If he can't persuade Jesus to avoid the cross here he's finished. Jesus knows the plan, knows what he has to do, but is starting to feel the pressure.
Here there is no direct confrontation, just a careful placing of doubts about the course of action being followed. Jesus prays fro strength from his Father.
